Chad Smith
President
Chad Smith is a seasoned energy executive with 30 years of experience in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, financing, and asset operations. His combination of financial expertise and operational insight has positioned him as a trusted leader across a wide range of strategic and commercial initiatives. Chad holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

Scott Phipps
Scott Phipps serves as Chief Executive Officer of PetroLedger Accounting & Land, where he leads the company’s strategic growth as a nationwide outsourcing partner for the global energy industry. Under his leadership, PetroLedger has expanded its scalable suite of accounting, land administration, division order, and regulatory compliance services for upstream and midstream operators of all sizes. Scott brings more than two decades of finance and energy industry experience, including senior leadership roles in investor relations and finance at Tesoro and TPC Group. He holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Texas A&M University.
Grant Sparks
Grant Sparks serves as Vice President of Regulatory Services at PetroLedger, where he leads a team of regulatory experts overseeing reporting and compliance for over 80 operators across nearly all oil- and gas-producing states, as well as federal and tribal jurisdictions. His team maintains a relentless focus on meeting critical deadlines with accuracy and helping clients navigate an evolving regulatory landscape. Grant holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA and brings over 25 years of industry experience. Raised in a family of oil producers, he worked in the patch at an early age. Grant has a deep understanding of field operations and the realities operators face. He is an accountant with a passion for the patch!
Nan Carlson
Nan Carlson is our VP of Land Administration, having come to us from Associated Resources, Inc., where she has worked since joining the team in 2004. She ended up in the industry by chance, seeing an open position at an independent office support company similar to ARI. However, her father was a landman, so she may have been destined for the industry. Nan has spent her career honing her skills in land and lease records, lease records operating systems, conversions, lease and title research, division order calculations, and record-keeping at various companies across the country. At one point, she was in charge of converting a past employer’s 20,000+ lease records to an in-house system, so she is no stranger to large projects.
Shannah Goins
Shannah has over 30 years of oil and gas experience. She has been with the company for 20 years in various roles related to client services and has touched all accounting functions. She served as Client Account Manager for many different clients over the years. She was promoted to Director of Client Success and worked with potential clients to scope new services and onboard them into monthly operations. To fill a need in operations, she returned to that group and served as Director, managing the AP/JIB and GL departments. She was promoted to Vice President, Accounting Services in May of 2024 and served in that role until her recent promotion. Shannah now serves as Senior VP of Accounting, Land Administration, and Regulatory operations. Client services is truly her passion, and she is thankful for all the wonderful clients and talented team members she has worked with over the years. Shannah has a bachelor’s in accounting and is a CPA.
Steve Hernandez
Steve Hernandez is a Human Resources and Organizational Development executive based in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 25 years of experience advancing leadership capability and organizational effectiveness. His expertise spans talent development, culture transformation, engagement, and performance management, with a track record of designing strategies and programs aligned to business objectives. He has held senior leadership roles across multiple industries, including telecom, healthcare, entertainment, manufacturing, and oil and gas.
Steve holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Human Resources Management and is certified in numerous leadership development and assessment methodologies. He is known for delivering practical, customized solutions that strengthen talent pipelines and drive organizational impact.
Caitlan Capps
Caitlan Capps serves as Vice President of Sales & Marketing at PetroLedger Accounting & Land, where she leads revenue strategy, market expansion, and strategic partnerships across the company’s growing client base. She brings more than a decade of leadership in energy technology and B2B SaaS, with prior executive roles at Qube Technologies, Quorum Software, Aucerna, and 3esi-Enersight, spanning operations, consulting, and business development across the U.S. and Canada. Caitlan is especially passionate about partnering with early- and growth-stage energy companies to sharpen go-to-market execution and operational strategy. She holds a degree from the University of Oklahoma’s Price College of Business.
